Sky Innovation Centre

Project Information

The Sky Campus is the UK’s headquarters for Sky Group UK. It houses Sky Central and Sky’s Believe in Better Building (BiBB), an award-winning office building, where A J Morrisroe delivered the substructure and superstructure packages.

Sky’s new Innovation Centre is the next stage of the redevelopment of the campus and provides a further flexible workspace for creative collaboration and tech innovation. Morrisroe Piling was appointed to design and construct the piled foundations for the new three-story steel framed building. This involved the construction of 113 Nr 500mm diameter CFA bearing piles with depths ranging between 10m and 27m.

Working to the highest standards of sustainability and within an extremely noise sensitive location we were able to deliver the piling works to budget and within a contract period of 3weeks.

Planning and Logistics

Surrounded by three private roads and a staff footpath meant that all deliveries needed to be carefully planned to arrive between 09:00 and 16:30, and strict access routes were required.

Noise controls

Noise levels were carefully monitored at each site boundary to ensure against any disturbance to live broadcasts taking place in adjacent buildings. Our selected CFA piling technique enabled us to keep noise disturbance to an absolute minimum.

Sustainability

To meet the client’s sustainability targets for the project, concrete mixes were carefully reviewed to achieve a 70% GGBS cement replacement. Piles were installed using a fully instrumented Soilmec SR-95 piling rig which also met Stage 5 emissions criteria.
