Morrisroe - Townsend House

Project Information

Townsend House is an art deco inspired mixed use building located on the corner of a busy junction in Central London’s Victoria. Comprising six-storeys including basement, the building was redeveloped to provide ground floor retail space with office and premium apartment space on the upper floors.

Foundation works were secured on an alternative pile design prepared by the GSS technical team. This involved using 56No 450/508 sectional case and auger piles to depths of 32m.

Restricted Access Piling

‍Restricted access piling methods were required to enable piling works to take place in a much- restricted basement space from an optimum piling platform level (where existing walls needed to remain in place) and where temporary props were required to support the highway. Works requried a 13t Klemm 709 rig which we were able to lift into the site during a pre-organised weekend road closure. 

Temporary Works

As with all projects we designed and coordinated the temporary works associated with the tower crane piles and temporary forces on to permanent work piles to ensure that the surrounding buildings and highways could remain fully operational and tower crane became operational at the earliest opportunity for the superstructure construction.
