The Sky Campus is the UK’s headquarters for Sky Group UK that has undergone redevelopment in recent years. The Innovation Centre, which provides a flexible workspace for creative collaboration and tech innovation, was the next stage of the redevelopment.

We were appointed to design and construct the piled foundations for the new three-storey steel framed building. This involved the construction of 113 no. 500 mm diameter CFA bearing piles with depths ranging between 10 and 27 metres. Working to the highest standards of sustainability and within an extremely noise sensitive location, we were able to deliver the piling works to budget within three weeks.

CFA: Minimal Disturbance

The site was surrounded by three private roads and a staff footpath, meaning that all deliveries needed to be carefully planned. Noise levels also needed to be monitored to prevent disturbance to live broadcasts in nearby buildings. Our selected CFA piling technique enabled us to keep noise disturbance to an absolute minimum.

Sustainability: Meeting Targets

To meet the client’s sustainability targets for the project, concrete mixes were carefully reviewed to achieve a 70% GGBS cement replacement. Piles were installed using a fully instrumented Soilmec SR-95 piling rig which also met Stage 5 emissions criteria.
