Historic Brickwork: Exposing Victorian Arches
Before work could begin, 12 million litres of water – the equivalent of nearly five Olympic swimming pools – needed to be drained from the reservoir. This exposed some impressive Victorian architectural brickwork, not seen for 50 years.
Pali Radice: Plant-Based Installation
Our work involved stitch coring through 63 existing column bases (@ 20° rake) and installing 126 no. 308/250 mm diameter piles, 12 metres in length. These were heavily reinforced for shear and bending. Each pile head was formed using shrinkage compensated grout to ensure adhesion to the agitated core holes, so that load transfer was possible without the need for additional RC works.
Piles were installed via a bored temporary cased method using one of our Super Kitten piling rigs. The rig was specially modified to run using plant based hydraulic oil, ensuring that no diesel or conventional oil entered the reservoir base area.
